noncon november is an impromptu yet timely celebration of transgressive art, using themed explorations of one of the best-known and most misunderstood erotic fantasies. artists, writers, and all other creatives are encouraged to use these prompts to delve into the thorny places in the human psyche and discover what lies at the crossroads of horror and desire.
november is a sacred time of reflection begun with the thinning of barriers between the physical and spiritual planes as the days in the northern hemisphere darken. such a time is eminently appropriate for art to tread the boundaries between the comfortable and the frightening, the desirable and the abject.november has also historically played host to a variety of events centred on an absence, or abstention, perhaps in part due to the easy alliteration with the name. the works here promoted deal similarly in the absence, or denial, of consent, sexual or otherwise.
in part because of the alliterative appeal noted above.more seriously: to understand art as an instrument for catharsis and exploration carries immeasurable value which is often, and easily, misunderstood. exploration of an erotic nature, especially in the realm of what is ordinarily aversive, suffers particularly from misjudgement, disavowal, and fear.noncon is among the more common, and recognisable, of those erotic themes which transgress ordinary boundaries. because of the violence inherent to the act, and the myriad horrors which it evokes with respect to individual fears and broader social ills, its portrayal falls subject to heavy scrutiny borne of misapprehensions about its nature. in art, it is a quintessential experience of jouissance: that form of enjoyment which enfolds the unpleasant within the pleasurable.by sharing in a series of prompts dedicated to this common and oft-reviled erotic theme, it is the hope of the event's host that creative folk may foster community, dispel shame, and together push back against the walls which press in ever closer around the things we love.
the #ncn2025 tag is welcome to use on any social media or art site which you favour. the host primarily uses bluesky, but will also feature a public ao3 collection for written submissions.
that's up to you! while many of these prompts use the names of commonly known tropes, some are simply based on concepts or situations. there is not a "right" way to interpret them in your work so long as you enjoy making it.
All works must be entirely fictional. No works will be accepted that feature real, named people whether in drawn art, writing, video, or otherwise. (Works based on fictionalised media about historical figures, such as Thrill Me, Evita, etc. are permitted.)
Use the tag #ncn2025 on social media to include your works in the feed!
No genAI submissions. This should go without saying.
No paywalled works may be submitted. This is a free community event, oriented around celebrating creative freedom and fun.
Prompts may be answered in any language, any format, and at any length or stage of completion. Rough drafts and sketches are welcome!
Prompts may be used in any order. Combining prompts is also welcome! The event is your oyster.
Daily participation is not required. Engage at your own pace, according to your own interest!
Works will not be moderated except to filter out genAI and works depicting real people. Content warnings are welcome but not required; use your best judgement.
Fanworks are welcome! Fan material may be based on any and all source media including ships, AUs, etc.
Original characters and works are encouraged. Please be respectful of other creatives and don't use their original work without permission.
Respect other participants. Don't yuck others' yum. Don't harass other creatives based on personal discomfort or dislike of a ship, trope, or character interpretation.
